Birmingham City boss Aitor Karanka wants Covid probe into Rotherham United

Birmingham City boss Aitor Karanka is fuming that Paul Warne's side have had to postpone matches against Brentford and Luton Town after being hit by Covid again.

The Blues occupy the final safety spot, one place and three points above Rotherham who now have three matches in hand.

Karanka, whose team lost 1-0 at Barnsley yesterday, believes that by the time the rearranged games take place the Millers could be facing opponents who have nothing to play for.

“This is the second time I think they have postponed games for the Covid situation,” Karanka said.

“They are going to play the games maybe when the other teams know their positions and it isn’t going to be the same.

“They are going to play the games when they are rested, they are going to play against Brentford when maybe they (Brentford) are in the Premier League or they are already in the play-off positions.

“It is something the EFL need to check because I don’t think it is normal. It is unfair."

Rotherham, who had to called off two matches in December because of Covid among their squad, have eight players and staff suffering with the virus.

Karanka hit out: “Our club hasn’t had one game postponed because we are looking after ourselves.

“It is not the first time that Rotherham is having the same problem. When you are making one mistake, maybe, but the second one I think, for me is not fair.

The EFL sanctioned the Bees and Hatters postponements, which were announced on Friday.

In a statement, they said an investigation would take place, but it was standard wording which they use whenever any club has to call off a fixture because of coronavirus.
