The experienced right-back has joined League One Crewe Alexandra's play-off push until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old's contract at AESSEAL New York Stadium expires in the summer and it would be a major shock if he was offered a new one.

Jones, who played in the Premier League with Sunderland, has made 41 appearances in two and a half years with Rotherham.

Crewe, managed by former Millers centre-half David Artell, is where he began his career in 2003.

He went on to play for Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion before moving to the Stadium of Light.

His time with the Millers was blighted by injuries and he had managed just five Championship outings this term.
