The rider (40), who is not believed to have been wearing a helmet, lost control around 25 metres after passing under the railway bridge, left the road and collided head-on with a road sign, added the spokeswoman.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the bike prior to the crash, or from anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that could help their enquiries.

Police would like to speak to a second motorcyclist, riding a Husqvarna bike, who they believe was in the area at the time of the collision.

Anyone with information should contact police via 10, quoting incident number 129 of August 9.

Any video footage can be sent to [email protected] with the incident number in the subject line.
