Biker dies following Parkgate collision

A BIKER who suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash in Parkgate has died in hospital.

Wayne Kershaw (40), of Eastwood, suffered serious head and spinal injuries in a crash on Rotherham Road at 1.45am last Sunday, a police spokeswoman said.

He died in hospital on Wednesday.

Police said his family were being supported by specialist officers and they have requested privacy.

Mr Kershaw was riding a grey Yamaha motorbike on Rotherham Road away from Parkgate Retail Park at 1.45am on Sunday, a police spokeswoman said.

Around 25m after the railway bridge, Mr Kershaw is said to have lost control, left the road and collided head-on with a road sign.

The Serious Collisions Unit is investigating the lead-up to the crash and would like witnesses to get in touch.

Officers would also like anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the time before the collision to contact them.

Police believe a second motorcyclist was in the area at the time and anyone with information about that should get in touch.

Anyone with information should contact 101, quoting incident number 129 of August 9.

Any video footage can be sent to enquiries@southyorks.pnn.police.uk with the incident number in the subject line.
