Bid to lure bats into hidden Rotherham beauty spot

VOLUNTEERS are planning a “bat action day” to encourage the animals to move into a area near Parkgate Shopping.

Vegetation will be cleared and bat boxes installed in the area at the Fitzwilliam Canal Basin near Parkgate Shopping.

The work will be carried out between 11am and 1pm by a tem from  Groundwork Dearne Valley

Elise Pegg, community project officer for Groundwork Dearne Valley, said: “The site is a real hidden gem and a local beauty spot.

“It is so close to the shopping centre but yet most people don’t even know of its existence. Come and have a look for yourself next time you are in the area.”

To take part call Elise on 01226 740077 or email The environmental project is being funded by Parkgate Shopping owners British Land and involves officers from Rotherham Borough Council.
