The bid came in yesterday from a foreign club and was immediately turned down.

Warne informed the player who said he wanted to stay at AESSEAL New York Stadium anyway.

"The offer was below what we would expect but he isn't someone we would want to sell," the boss said.

"I have spoken to him and he has no appetite for it either. Even if the club were to come back and offer crazy money it's a dead duck."

Meanwhile, Warne revealed he was an admirer of Birmingham City striker Sam Cosgrove who has joined the Millers' League One rivals, Shrewsbury Town, on loan.

"I did like him at Aberdeen," he said. "He didn't really play a lot at Birmingham."

The Advertiser understand that the 24-year-old was on a list of potential Rotherham targets but that other names were ahead of him.

Cosgrove hit the target 47 times in 103 appearances for Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen but failed to score in 12 appearances for the Blues after moving to St Andrew's in January.

"I know there were a few clubs linked to him and he has gone to the Shrews," Warne said. "He is a good player, a good targetman, and he will definitely score goals in this league."
