Better bus services promised for Rotherham travellers

BUS CHIEFS are making changes to services in a bid to boost public transport in Rotherham.

After a review by Stagecoach, improvements such as low-floor double-deckers will feature on the 226 and 229 services from Barnsley to Rotherham, providing extra seats at busy times.

Other upgraded routes include the 57 and 59 through Barnsley, Royston and Wakefield for extra Sunday journeys cutting day waiting times to 30 minutes.

Services on the Barnsley to Elsecar 66 will also be re-timed so that buses leave Barnsley Interchange at ten and 40 minutes past the hour.

Services 92, 93 and 95 through Barnsley, Cawthorne, Woolley Colliery Village and Kexbrough will also benefit from the review.

The 95 timetable will be altered to provide a bus every 20-minutes from Monday to Saturday and a new service, 93A is to be introduced from Barnsley to Staincross.

Paul Lynch, Stagecoach Yorkshire managing director, said: "Most of the changes have come about as a result of suggestions and requests from our passengers.

"The new 93A service is a case in point. It is only by listening to our customers that we can tailor services to their needs and this particularly applies to route changes and timings."

The changes come into effect from July 24.
