Band cancels Rotherham show on gig day

A GLOBE-TROTTING band booked to play Rotherham tonight has cancelled at the last minute, after the performance “slipped through their net”.

KOG and the Zongo Brigade, a nine-piece band from Sheffield, were due to play 1915 Bar and Bistro in the town centre.

The bar has been advertising the event for months — but the band’s agent pulled the plug just this afternoon.

A spokesman for talent agency Wormfood told gig organisers that the band’s two frontmen had flown to France for a gig in Marseille.

He said: “I’m incredibly sorry to do this at the last minute, but I have to cancel tonight’s performance of KOG and the Zongo Brigade.

“Somehow this performance slipped through the net of the band’s internal calendar.

“They’ve been busy working on a solution but I’ve just been informed that that they can’t get enough band members to fulfil the obligation.”

It is the second time the band has cancelled a date at 1915, having previously pulled out of an October booking.

The spokesman added: “This is just one of those unfortunate situations where factors have conspired against us.

“I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”

A spokeswoman for the venue announced the news on Facebook, offering “biggest apologies” to disappointed customers.

She added: “I’m gutted that months of planning and effort ended with the agency cancelling on the day — it isn’t acceptable."
