Team mates of 15-year-old Ryan Durkin, who died in hospital eight days after he was hit by a speeding, stolen car in Brinsworth, have organised the event to raise funds to support his family.

Phoenix Youth under-15s player Ryan will be remembered during a day of fundraising at the Phoenix Sport and Social Club, Pavilion Lane, Brinsworth, on Saturday from 2pm.

Balloons will be released and the two teams who will be playing are The Durkin Boys, made up of Ryan’s friendship group, and The Three Magpies.

Hayley Taylor, one of the organisers, said: “We are currently raising as much money as possible for the Ryan Durkin Fund. It is to help Ryan’s family at this heartbreaking time.

"All the money raised will go towards the fund as we want to celebrate Ryan’s life for the beautiful person he was.

“Aside from the football match, we will be running a raffle with a number of prizes available, tickets are available from 50p.”

Entry to the event costs £2 for adults and £1 for children on the door.
