Awards at the double for Veterans Centre

ROTHERHAM Military Community Veterans Centre was presented with its Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service at a sunny celebration.

The award was collected on behalf of the MCVC team by Emma McKenzie and Bill Carroll.

The presentation took place at a garden party hosted by High Sheriff Lt Col Mac McPherson at Wortley Hall.

Rotherham Council officer Vicky Hartley was presented with a High Sheriff’s award for service to the veterans’ community since 2015.

MCVC trustee Cllr Ian Jones said: “It was a lovely sunny afternoon with over 100 guests including the deputy mayor of Sheffield and several other high profile dignitaries.

“The event was supported by music from the City of Sheffield Pipe Band, Thorpe Hesley Brass Band and run by the MCVC events team with support from the Sheffield sea and marine cadets.

“This comes in a very special year with the MCVC celebrating its tenth birthday, which was made even more special coming in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year.”
