Aston pupils praised for year of achievement

MORE than 350 pupils from nine schools came together for an awards ceremony hosted by their academy trust.

Parents, carers, governors and staff enjoyed high tea, presentations and musical performances at the seventh annual Aston Community Education Trust (ACET) Awards Ceremony 

The event, held over two-nights, celebreated the achievements of students from the trust’s six junior and three senior schools.

There were performances from the ACET choir and by Aston Academy students, Melissa Ingram and Emily Curran.

Students were commended for their contribution to the community, arts, sporting and academic achievements

Governors and trustees presented winners with an award and special certificates. 

Beth Jones (16, pictured), from Aston Academy, picked up the most prestigious award of the evening after being crowned student of the year and was handed a £200 cheque, which was sponsored by Maltby Lions.

Swinton Academy’s student of the year was Nana Andoh-Kesson (15), who received £100, while Patryk Swidnik (16), who was named Shirebrook Academy’s student of the year, also received the same sum in prize money.

ACET junior pupils of the year were Clark Keiller (9) of Thurcroft Junior Academy, Dan Goddard (11) of Lowedges Junior Academy, Sophie Howard (10) from Springwood Junior Academy, Joshua Jordan (11) of Aughton Junior Academy, Joseph Mills (11) of Temple Normanton Junior Academy, Tilly Mcveigh (6) of Listerdale Junior Academy who all received a book token of £25.

John Barton, trust chairman praised the students for their achievements adding: “They are a credit to themselves, their families and their academies.”

Brookfield Junior Academy, of Lime Grove, Swinton, will soon be joining the trust.
