Art teacher Lauren Charlton named Young Trader of the Year

AN ENTERPRISING art teacher has been highly commended by judges in a national youth market contest.

Lauren Charlton (26, pictured) was crowned Yorkshire Young Trader of the Year 2018 at the Yorkshire Youth Marke in Leeds.

Her business — The Yorkshire Print — produces hand-drawn illustrations of town and cityscapes, printed on items like tea towels and tote bags.

It earned her a ticket to trade at the National Youth Market, held at Stratford-upon-Avon last Friday, where judges handed her another trophy.

Lauren said: “What an amazing year it’s been for me as a new business.

“I’m so grateful to Dean at Rotherham Markets, for putting me through to the semi-final.

“Also to the National Market Traders Federation for all the help and support — but mostly the opportunity to trade with them.”

Cllr Denise Lelliott, Rotherham Borough Council’s cabinet member for jobs and the local economy, said: “I’m really pleased for Lauren.

“Rotherham is historically a market town and our traders are proud and committed to trading here.

“We have some blossoming young traders who are developing into fine traders of the future.”
