Arsonists target two more areas of grassland

FIREFIGHTERS were called to two deliberate grassland fires last night (Wednesday) during an exceptionally busy week for the service.

Arsonists torched an area of grassland on Blyth Road, Maltby, at 7.05pm, a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

Firefighters from Maltby fire station spent around 40 minutes tackling the blaze.

Colleagues from Dearne fire station were called to a deliberate grassland fire on Barrowfield Road, Thurnscoe, at 8.30pm and were at the scene for half an hour.

Arsonists also set rubbish alight in Doncaster Road, Dalton, at 7.25pm which took a crew from Birley Moor Station half an hour to bring under control.
