Arsonist who firebombed Holmes property jailed for 18 years

AN ARSONIST who firebombed a terraced house while an elderly man slept inside has been jailed for 18 years.

David Cheeseman (32), of Central Drive, Rawmarsh, threw petrol bombs at the property on Belmont Street, Holmes, just after 2.30pm on June 8, 2018.

He was sentenced to 14 years, with an extended licence period of four years, at Sheffield Crown Court last Friday.

The house in Holmes which was firebombed by Cheeseman.

Cheeseman was found guilty of arson with intent to endanger life at a four-day trial at the court last year.

He was later found guilty, at a separate trial, of robbery and attempted robbery for stealing a car from a pregnant woman and trying to take a dog walker’s vehicle the following day.
