Arson investigation after West Melton car fires

DETECTIVES launched an arson investigation after two cars were set alight in West Melton yesterday (Tuesday).

Emergency services were called to Winterwell Road and Princess Street at about 1.45am.

A police spokesperson said: “Enquiries have led officers to believe that the vehicles were intentionally set on fire.

“Did you see or hear anything suspicious? Did you witness any suspicious people or vehicles in the Oak Lee Avenue area?”

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage for around the time immediately before or after the incident.

Meanwhile, firefighters were again in action in West Melton earlier today (Wednesday).

They attended Dryden Road at midnight, finding an attempted arson on a Ford Transit van which had only affected the engine compartment.
