The gang of around five men, forced the manager into the back of the shop where he was made to open the safe.

They fled the store with cash and cigarettes, leaving the manager shocked, but unharmed. No-one else was in the shop at the time.

A similar incident happened on January 17 when robbers armed with a crowbar raided the same newsagents.

The 61-year-old shopkeeper, who has since retired, was also forced into the back office, where he was ordered to open the safe and struck on the arm with the weapon.

The robbers escaped with a substantial sum of money.
