Armed police called to Thorpe Hesley car boot over firearms mix-up

BARGAIN-hunters visiting a car boot sale in Thorpe Hesley on Sunday morning had an unexpected visit from armed police.

But there was no need to panic - a customer had simply mistaken a stallholder's air weapons for the real thing.

Officers were called to the car boot sale, on Smithy Wood Road, just before 10.15am following a report of a sale of firearms, a police spokeswoman said.

Police spoke to the stallholder and "determined that air weapons were for sale", she added.
