Appeal for Good Samaritan who helped injured pensioner in Rotherham

POLICE are appealing for a Good Samaritan to come forward after he helped an injured pensioner to his feet following an attempted robbery.

A man (86) was walking along Eastwood Road towards Rotherham market at around 11.15am on February 17 when a woman tried to snatch his walking stick, a police spokeswoman said.

The incident caused the pensioner to fall to the floor, she added.

"It’s then understood that he was helped to his feet by a passing man, who alerted emergency services," said the spokeswoman.

"The 86-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment after suffering facial injuries."

Paul Harratt (42), of Cottage Beck Road, Scunthorpe, is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on March 17 charged with attempted robbery in connection with the incident. A police spokeswoman said Harratt identified as a woman.

Police are appealing for the Good Samaritan to come forward as a witness to the incident.

If you are the person, or know who he is, then please call 101, quoting investigation number 14/35312/20.
