Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was badly hurt when his car hit a lamppost in Wombwell.

The 25-year-old was driving a Nissan Micra on Station Road from Wombwell towards Darfield just after midnight yesterday morning when he lost control and smashed his car into the concrete post.

The Barnsley man sustained multiple fractures in both legs and was taken to Barnsley General Hospital where he was detained.
