Appeal after woman sexually assaulted in Cortonwood

POLICE are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted on the Transpennine Trail near Cortonwood on Saturday.

Officers were called at 2.40pm following reports that a man had touched a woman (34) inappropriately, a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said.

The woman is believed to have been walking down the Transpennine Trial, near to Wath Road in Cortonwood when she was approached by an unknown man from behind, said the spokeswoman.

The woman was uninjured and the man fled the scene.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident.

The man is described as being white, aged in his late twenties to early thirties, around 5ft 5ins tall and of a skinny build.

It is believed he was wearing a white t-shirt, a dark jacket and dark trousers.
