The victim, on Oates Avenue, Rawmarsh, was woken at 6.45am on Sunday, November 7, by a knock at the door, a police spokesperson said.

They added: "A man claiming to be a police officer attempted to get the victim to open the door before demanding money and valuables," added the spokesperson.

"He threatened violence, before making off with mobile phones, cash and clothing."

The suspect is described as white with tanned skin, a clean shaven head, over 6ft tall, wearing a light grey hooded jumper and black trousers.

Det Con Megan Byne said: “I would advise anyone concerned about the identity of a caller at the door to ask for their identification.

“Genuine callers such as police officers will always be happy to provide it.

“If anyone saw this incident or has information about it I would ask them to call police on 101 quoting incident number 239 of November 7.”
