Another bank bites the dust as Barclays bails out

ROTHERHAM will lose yet another bank in the autumn after Barclays said it planned to shut its town centre branch.

The Bridgegate facility will shut on November 2 and joins the growing list of branches getting the axe.

News of the closure comes just nine months after Barclays said it was shutting the Stag branch.

The bank said it had seen a 26 per cent drop in counter transactions between the 2018/2019 and 2019/20 finanical years.

A total of 59 customers now did all their banking there, with 87 per cent of branch customers using other forms of banking.

NatWest and RBS have also axed their town centre branches in recent years.

The nearest Barclays branch from November will be in Darnall.

A report earlier this year found Rotherham had lost 11 out of 100 ATMs during the 18 months to last September.
