Anger after Wath road is closed without warning

Melton High Street in Wath is shut for roadworks, but Rotherham Borough Council is in the firing line over the closure of adjacent Barnsley Road, including the roundabout where the two meet.

Dean Pearson, of Dearne Motor Spares on Barnsley Road, said: “They shut the road outside the shop at 9am today.

“We had no warning. We didn’t know anything about it until this morning when we turned up for work and found no-one could get through.”

Mr Pearson said bus drivers using Barnsley Road had also been surprised to find the road shut.

The borough council has been approached for comment.
