Ambulance involved in rush-hour crash

A RUSH-hour crash in Whiston this morning involved two cars and an ambulance, injuring several people.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed that one of its vehicles crashed on Herringthorpe Valley Road, on its way to an emergency.

Police closed the road was closed in both directions after the collision, just before 8.30am.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that one of our ambulances was involved in a collision today as it was responding to an emergency incident.

“Two ambulances and a clinical supervisor attended the scene and one patient was taken to hospital.”

She added that another ambulance was immediately sent to the emergency to which the crashed vehicle was on its way to.

A police spokeswoman said: “Emergency services were called at around 8.25am to reports of a collision on Herringthorpe Valley Road.

“It is reported that a blue Honda Jazz, a silver Vauxhall Astra and an ambulance were involved in the collision.

“It is understood that a number of people involved suffered minor injuries.”

She added that the road was closed “for a time”, but had reopened by 10.30am.
