SHOPPING giant Amazon showed its heart with a £2,000 donation to young carers in Rotherham.
Staff and volunteers at Rotherham Young Carers, part of Barnardo’s, received a £1,000 cash donation and a donation of furniture, pictures and stationery worth the same amount from the online retailer, which has a warehouse in Doncaster.
Rotherham Young Carers supports children and young people who care for someone in their family who has a serious long-term illness, disability, mental health difficulties or problematic use of alcohol or drugs.
The products donated by the Amazon team will be used for the charity’s “Reachout Room” where group sessions are held for Young Carers wishing to meet other young carers whose lives are similar to theirs.
The room is seen as a safe place where young carers can share their thoughts, feelings and experiences of their caring roles.
The donation is part of a longstanding relationship between Amazon and Barnardo’s. At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Amazon donated £10,000 to Barnardo’s to help the charity during the early stages of lockdown.
Adam Banks, site leader at the Amazon Doncaster iPort, Adam Banks, said: “The team at Amazon is passionate about supporting the young people in our community and we jumped at the chance to make this donation to Rotherham Young Carers.
“The work they do in partnership with Barnardo’s is needed now more than ever and they have our full support as they continue to have a positive impact on children across Rotherham.”
