Alleged child groomer sexually assaulted girl in Meadowhall lift, court told

AN ALLEGED child groomer sexually assaulted a girl in a lift at Meadowhall, a court was told.

Azad Akram Raja (38) is said to have sexually abused the girl "50 times" - including around the shopping centre and at the girls' home.

He is on trial alongside two others at Sheffield Crown Court accused of seven child sex offences as part of the National Crime Agency's investigation into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham.

Prosecutor Ms Jayne Beckett has told the jury that the case involved the sexual abuse of two schoolgirls in the early 2000s when they could have been as young as 13 and the defendants were aged between 15 and 20.

The schoolgirls would hang around Meadowhall and around Sheffield where they would meet older men.

Raja, of Adney Street, Sheffield, faces two counts of indecent assault against the first complainant, who we are referring to as Girl A.

He is accused of repeatedly making Girl A perform two kinds of sexual act on him.

The jury was played videos of Girl A's interviews with the police last Thursday and Friday.

The police officer asked the woman where she had been when she first had sexual contact with Raja.

She said: "I don't remember.

"It was outside - it was probably in the field or [at] Meadowhall, in the lift."

The police officer said: "Can you tell me about the occasion in the lift?"

The woman said: "Yeah, we just had sex.

"We were both stood up and we were just against the back of the lift.

"He would have his back towards the door."

The police officer asked the woman if she had ever done anything to Raja she did not like.

The woman said she had not liked performing a sex act, adding: "I didn't really want to, but I was keeping him happy.

"I hated it."

The woman said she had "had sex" with Raja outside "about 50 times".

Yasir Iqbal Hussain (38), of Norborough Road, Tinsley, is accused of one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault, against the same woman.

The woman said in her interview that she had "slept with" someone she had known as 'Gaz', whom she thought was actually called Yasir.

The police officer asked the woman if she had wanted to "have sex" with Yasir again.

She said she had wanted to, adding: "He was just nice to me."

The woman said Yasir had been "a bit more rough with her" the second time.

"[He was] just hurting me, going on my neck," she said.

"He was just really rough with me.

"My neck was a right mess.

"I was saying: 'Ow, you're hurting me', but he carried on."

Faisel Hussain (34), of Lovetot Road, Kimberworth, faces two counts of indecent assault against a second woman, Girl B.

Girl A said in her interview that she thought Girl B had performed a sexual act on Hussain on a bus.

"But I don't know if I'm thinking of the right person," she said.

"Fish lived in Tinsley and he used to hang around Rotherham Bus Station looking for girls, and we all went to Meadowhall."

The prosecution say Fish is Faisel Hussain.

The defendants, who deny all of the charges, have been charged as part of the National Crime Agency's investigation into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham.

The trial continues.
