A fire spokesman said Ulley Country Park had reported a similar problem during the hot Easter break.

He added: “Water presents a number of different hazards, irrespective of depth.

“While the temptation during hot weather may be to cool off in lakes or rivers, it is impossible to gauge their temperature, flow or depth, meaning people can quickly get into difficulties.”

The advice warns parkgoers to stay out of the water unless there are signs or flags saying it is safe.

They are also told to take care on riverbanks and never go swimming, fishing or boating alone.
