Alena Grlakova murder accused remanded into custody

Gary Arthur Allen (46), of HMP Doncaster, spoke only to confirm his name and personal details when he appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court today (Wednesday) charged with murdering the 38-year-old.

Allen, who wore a grey Slazenger top and dark bottoms, gave his nationality as British during the minute-long hearing.

District Judge Ms Naomi Redhouse said: "There's no power in this court to consider the question of bail in this case."

She remanded Allen into custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday.

Mrs Grlakova’s body was found on land just off Taylor’s Lane, Parkgate, on April 8 and and a murder inquiry was launched. 

The Swinton mum had been reported missing in January of this year following concerns from her family. 

The last sighting of her was on Boxing Day 2018.

Det Chief Insp Mark Oughton said earlier today that the police were still appealing for information about the time around the killing.
