Alarm alerts occupants to Kimberworth flat fire

SMOKE alarms alerted the occupants of a flat in Kimberworth to a fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Firefighters from Rotherham, Elm Lane and Tankersley stations were called to the fire at a first floor flat on Simmonite Road at 1.58am, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

The occupants were already out of the flat by the time firefighters arrived having been woken by the smoke alarms, the spokesperson added.

The fire had started accidentally and firefighters left the scene at 3.36am.
