Air Ambulance called to 'serious incident' on M18
There were long delays this morning

AN AIR Ambulance was at the scene of a “serious” crash this morning on the M18.

The Advertiser understands that a car overturned around 9.30am, which led to long delays between Junction 1 at Hellaby and the M1 link.

Public transport services have also been affected by the accident.

National Highways informed road users at 9.36am about the road closure with traffic “held” southbound and notified them of diversion details.

Around 10.30am, the team reported that the M18 southbound was “released” with delays of 60 minutes.

There was approximately five miles of congestion on approach to the closure.

All lanes were reopened at 11.30am with approximately three-and-a-half miles of congestion still in place.

Stagecoach East Midlands said: “Due to various road closures across our network including the A1 & M18 some of our services our suffering delays of up to 40 minutes.”

First South Yorkshire said: “26, 27, 29, X1, X10, X5, X54, X55 & School services suffering delays due to closure of M18 northbound from M1 J33.

"Aston services are particularly affected.
