AN elderly woman was airlifted to hospital by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance after suffering life-threatening injuries in a car crash in Tickhill, Rotherham.

The 72-year-old, from Maltby, was in the back of a silver Ford Focus which careered off the road and hit a tree in Sunderland Street, Tickhill, just before 11am yesterday,

The driver, a Maltby woman, and two other passengers escaped uninjured but paramedics were called to help the injured woman.

She was flown to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield.
