'Against the world' ... Rotherham United manager Paul Warne reacts to more refereeing injustice

The Millers are scrapping for their Championship lives and this afternoon fell to an undeserved defeat at derby rivals Barnsley who benefited from an early goal that should never have been allowed to stand.

Goalkeeper Viktor Johansson suffered eye-socket damage in the challenge that led to Carlton Morris scoring in the second minute. He played no further part in the match and is now undergoing concussion testing.

"We feel like we're against the world and that decision in the second minute reaffirms my belief that everyone wants to see us down," Warne said.

"I have seen the incident again. And I have seen my goalkeeper's face."

Referee Gavin Ward failed to blow for a foul on Johansson, heaping frustration on Rotherham who have lost midfielder Matt Crooks for three games after the FA's decision to uphold the red card wrongly shown by Darren Bond against Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

The third-bottom Millers, who have four matches left to claw back a four-point gap to Derby County, dominated proceedings at Oakwell against play-off-chasing opposition and should have taken three points.

"I can't believe we've come away with nothing," Warne said. "There can't have been many games where we've had more attempts on goal or clear-cut chances.

"It's not that often the opposition manager tells me that my team should have won either. I'm hugely disappointed. I can't knock the lads' effort. We had enough chances to score.

"We played with ten men for 70 minutes on Wednesday and still put in a right shift here. We're playing nearly a quarter of a season in a month and the lads are still putting that amount of effort into a game. That's how much they want to stay up.

Barnsley head coach Valerien Ismael reckoned he "did not see" what happened between Johansson and Morris whose arm caught the Swede's face.

He added: “It was a really, really poor performance. We got the three points and that is the most important thing. Big congratulations to Rotherham, they deserved more than to lose the game.

“It was the expected fight. Maybe we scored too early and woke up Rotherham, but we never came into the game. We were always too late and our decision-making was too slow."

On the hugely controversial goal, he added: “I did not see the situation from my angle. I have to see. At the end of the day, it does not matter now. We have the three points."
