POLICE closed northbound carriageways on the M1 motorway for more than an hour after a collision involving two cars.

A stretch between junctions 33 and 34, near Catcliffe, was closed after the incident which happened at around 12.40pm today.

Firefighters from Darnall Fire Station joined the operation to clear the accident.

A fire service spokesman said: “There were no casualties trapped in cars. Crews helped police to clear the road, however, as all three lanes of the motorway had been blocked by the incident.”
