Abbey School changes backed

CHANGES including a cut in admissions at saved Abbey School have been approved by Rotherham Borough Council.

The number of places has been lowered from 105 to 60 pupils, with a specific range of moderate special needs.

Rallying campaigners secured 5,000 signatures to help rescue the school, currently in special measures, which had been recommended for closure by the council.

An independent report in February said the Kimberworth school could be kept. Council commissioner Stella Manzie approved the move last week (16).
