A57 closed after lorry bursts into flames

A LORRY carrying large bales of hay burst into flames leading to the closure of the A57 near Aston.

Four fire crews are currently at the scene near to the roundabout on the A57 Worksop Road just off junction 31 of the M1.

Firefighters at the scene said the road could be closed until around 9pm tonight.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue was called to the blaze at 2.30pm today.

Two crews from Aston and others from Birley and Maltby are in attendance.

An eye witness said crews had to pull bales of hay off the lorry and hose it down, which was also causing smoke to billow across the busy road.

  • It's straw. Not hay. Totally different stuff and easy to tell apart. Whatever happened to accuracy in reporting?
