700 runners join Sunday's Rotherham 10k - here's what you need to know

NEARLY 700 runners will be pounding the streets of Rotherham on Sunday as the town’s first 10k race takes over.

The Pawson Rotherham 10k in aid of Age UK Rotherham will begin and end in Clifton Park and will see 682 runners take in the town centre course.

Participants who have not already picked up their number and T-shirts (if ordered) will need to collect them either on Saturday at Clifton Park’s garden house from 10am to 4.30pm or on race day between 9-11am.

There is free Sunday parking available at Drummond Street and Clifton Hall, and a pay and display area in Clifton Park’s main car park at the Doncaster Road entrance.

Town centre road closures will take place from around 10.30am to 1.30pm but will be reopened in sections once runners are cleared. To see a full list of closures visit www.rotherham10k.co.uk.

The one-mile fun run, which has 178 entrants, will start at 10.30am in the park where there will also be a bar and barbecue.

The current weather forecast for Sunday is good — dry and bright with temperatures around 15-17C.

Event organiser Steve Gaines, of Rotherham Harriers, said: “Please come along and support the runners around the course.

“The lead runners will be following a small group of local cyclists who are guiding them around the course and there are volunteer marshals spread around the races thanks to the local running and rotary clubs for help with this.

“It’s set to be a very exciting inaugural event and we have been so pleased by the response.”

The run is being supported by the Advertiser as part of its Fighting Fit campaign, which aims to reduce obesity rates, bring in funding for sports clubs and increase participation in exercise.
