MUCH-needed repairs to a village church ravaged by flooding and lead thieves have been given a boost by a £6,500 cheque from parish councillors.

Ravenfield Parish Council stepped forward to help church officials and parishioners at the village's St James' Church with the cost of restoring the roof.

Parish council chairman Cllr Chris Ward presented the unexpected boost to church warden Sandra Pearson at the council's latest monthly meeting.

The money will go towards the completion of the roof and interior repairs of St James' and allow fund-raising to continue towards establishing a water supply for the church and installing toilets.
