57-year-old man found deceased after "fatal" collision

POLICE are investigating the death of a 57-year-old man in an accident after a body was found next to a country lane.

Officers were called to the scene on Long Gate, New Edlington, at 10.10am on Monday following reports of a body of a man and a motorbike in a roadside ditch.

A police spokesperson said: “A red Yamaha FZ 6 motorbike is believed to have been travelling along Long Lane from Edlington towards Wadworth when it left the road.

“The rider was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Any witnesses are asked to come forward who may have seen the collision or who have any further information.”

The accident is believed to have happened between 6.30pm and 7pm and involved a motorbike being ridden in the direction of Wadworth.

The spokesperson said: “Drivers are also asked to check any dashcam footage they may have if they were in the area around that time.

“Anyone with information is asked to call us on 101 quoting incident number 224 of June 13.

“If you have dashcam footage, please email it to [email protected] quoting the incident number in the subject.”
