£3m Rotherham road repairs package gets go-ahead

NEARLY £3 million will be spent on Rotherham’s crumbling roads and pavements, under plans which went before councillors this week.

Just over £2 million—from the Department for Transport—will go on 70 improvement schemes across the borough.

These include six on Muglet Lane in Maltby, four on Mangham Road, Parkgate, and two on Mansfield Road at Aston.

A further £800,000—from Rotherham Borough Council’s highway maintenance and surface treatment budgets—will go on 101 other schemes in 2011/12.

The proposals, approved at the regeneration and environment Cabinet meeting yesterday, are subject to weather damage and other factors.

But Stephen Finley, Streetpride network senior engineer, said: “The draft plan indicates a commitment to make sure roads and footpaths meet at least national average standards.”
