Swinton Lock Activity Centre will use the money to fund creative sessions for children aged six to 16 years old who have additional needs.

Nicola Rush, centre manager for children and young people’s provision, said the grant was “fantastic news”.

She said: “This money will enable us to continue the work we started last year after Children In Need awarded us £9,800.

“We supported 50 children and young people over 12 months and that was oversubscribed — we ended up supporting 65 families and could have done more.

“We’ve got a lot of families in the local area crying out for additional support and for somewhere safe and positive to go and participate in lots of activities.

“This latest grant will allow us to support around 75 families — it was great to be able to tell them the weekly workshops could continue.”

The grant was the third funding boost for the centre in recent weeks after they received £9,993 from the Big Lottery Fund, which will pay towards the running costs of its canal boats, and £4,000 from Dinnington St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.
