£2m plan to boost Rotherham's sewage system

The money is part of a £58 million programme of work by Yorkshire Water to upgrade or replace its sewage, clean water and raw water pumping stations across the whole of South Yorkshire.

Eight sewage and seven clean water pumping stations in Rotherham and Sheffield are the next in line for improvements over the next few months.

The aim of the improvement work is to reduce the risk of any operational failures which could lead to pollution.

The region-wide scheme, which was launched in October last year, will see hundreds of pumping stations upgraded over the next five years.

Craig Proctor, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “We’re committed to ensuring our pumping stations, and indeed all of our assets, are performing to the highest possible standards.”
