11 dogs die in blaze

FIREFIGHTERS administered oxygen to a dog in an effort to save it from a house fire that claimed the lives of ten others.

A crew from Aston Fire Station worked quickly to retrieve the dog from a property on Worksop Road, Swallownest, after an emergency call at around 1.20pm on Friday.

A fire service spokesman said: “No occupants were in the house at the time, however fire crews found 11 dogs inside.

“Ten of the dogs had unfortunately already died at the scene.

“Firefighters worked quickly to revive the one remaining dog by administering oxygen therapy until a vet arrived.

“A woman from a neighbouring property was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.”

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that an investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the blaze.
