Rotherham Borough Council has allocated the sum in its highways budget alongside £10 million for road improvements as part of the 2020 Roads Programme.

Cllr Emma Hoddinott, the council’s cabinet member for waste, roads and community safety, inspected some of the works underway on Clarence Street in Dinnington.

She said: “As part of our commitment to providing safe, well-maintained neighbourhoods, we have already doubled the amount of money that the council’s spends on road resurfacing through to the end of the decade under our 2020 Roads programme.

“But residents also tell us that they are worried about the state of some of our pavements.

“Poor quality pavements affect those with mobility problems and  those dependent on wheelchairs so in some places these will be really important improvements.”
