Video: Topical tune celebrates Tour De Yorkshire

SINGING plumber Paul Ballington turned pedal-pusher to celebrate this weekend’s cycling extravaganza — the Tour De Yorkshire.

The topical song specialist has joined forces with the team behind this weekend’s event to release Get On Yer Bike.

Paul performed his track at the Eve of the Tour Celebration at York Castle yesterday.

The 37-year-old dad-of-two said: “It’s been great to get into the studio and record a real homage to the Yorkshire event.

“I wrote the song last year for the Tour De France but it’s been totally re-written and I got in the studio with a brass band and a violinist to record it. I think the result is really good.”

Paul, of Throapham, near Dinnington, teamed up with friend Ari Rannus, whom he met on a song writing course last year, to produce the new Get on yer Bike track.

A team from Tour De Yorkshire were sent to create a professional video to accompany the tune. Despite the professional approach, Paul said that his “playing for laughs” approach hadn’t been lost.

The video sees him taking his son’s bike to make a last-minute dash to a the Butcher’s Arms, Woodsetts, for a gig with his band in a hard-pedalling race against time.

Paul’s lyrics include lyrics like “pedal like a child chasing down an ice cream van”.
