VIDEO: Lightning blows hole in RCAT building's roof

A COLLEGE building suffered major damage after being struck by lightning.

The Community Education Resource Centre on Percy Street, owned by Rotherham College of Arts and Technology, was hit on Saturday afternoon.

The building was unoccupied—as were most neighbouring properties— and corporate services director Chris Stanbra said: “Thanks to actions by the council’s building control consultancy team the area was made safe over the weekend and the extent of the damage has now been assessed.”

The building is only occasionally used since RCAT moved provision into the main campus buildings in 2010.
