VIDEO: Life-saving CPR skills taught as part of Restart a Heart Day

THREE hundred college students learned life-saving skills as part of a Europe-wide day aimed at teaching youngsters CPR.

Students from Thomas Rotherham College volunteered to take part in Restart a Heart Day today (October 16).

The day is a British Heart Foundation initiative and was supported in the region by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) who delivered the CPR training.

Across Yorkshire 30,000 students and teachers were all being taught CPR and Steve Rendi from YAS said they are seeing the benefits of the training.

Mr Rendi, who was at the college, said: “Every minute that goes by that someone does not perform CPR during a cardiac arrest it lessens the chance of survival.

“30,000 people a year in the UK have a cardiac arrest and the more people that learn CPR at these events, the more people will survive.”
