Vicky's on her way to Open Mic grand final

ROTHERHAM songstress Vicky Turner has reached the finals of a national singing contest.

Vicky (16), of Park Hill, Swallownest, won through with six others at the North of England area finals of the Open Mic UK competition at Dewsbury Town Hall on Sunday.

Now she will perform at the London’s O2 Arena in February.

She performed Daddy, by Emeli Sandi in the area final and could win a recording deal as part of a £50,000 prize package in the grand final.

Another Rotherham teenager, Jade Wilkinson (14), of Whiston, missed out on the final after her performance of Hurt, by Christina Aguilera, was hampered by the fact that she lost her voice in the run-up to the Dewsbury event.
