Ulley proves to be a well dressed village

WELL-dressing residents teamed up to create a colourful dedication to a Christian mission.

The village of Ulley displayed its first ever well-dressing as part of the Mission Crossroads initiative that culminated with a visit to Rotherham by the Archbishop of York.

After a week on display at the Holy Trinity Church, Ulley, contributor Sue Hubbard admitted that the well-dressing had had proved so popular that it could become an annual event.

She said: “We wanted to do something that could include all the community, young and old alike and that would celebrate the life of the church and the surrounding countryside.

“Taking living water as the theme the image is based on the Church and the reservoir and contains many symbols of life in Ulley and its surroundings.

“The Churches of Swallownest, Aston and Ulley came together with visitors form the Bishop’s team and the Diocese for a family fun day with barbecue and much of the work on the image was done on that day, then finished off by volunteers through out the week.

“The end result was breathtaking.”
