Travellers disrupt Maltby business centre

A DOZEN travellers' caravans have set up camp on a Maltby industrial estate, allegedly disrupting business and threatening staff.

Travellers started moving on to Aven Industrial Park, Tickhill Road, on Saturday and more vehicles arrived on Sunday.

Business-owners claimed adults and children have threatened them, spat at them and even thrown human faeces at them.

Tracey Jackson, of Hymech Engineering, said: “The police have done nothing to help.

“All they do is attend and hand out crime reference numbers for insurance purposes.”

She added: “They say it’s a civil matter and they can’t do anything. We work and pay our taxes and then this happens.

“These people are all over the site like zombies and we’re sitting ducks.”

Businesses said the landlord of the site has obtained a court order which tells them to leave by Wednesday afternoon.

The Advertiser has approached the council and the police for comment, but none has yet been received.

Mick Gillott, of MG Motors, said: “I just can’t get my head around it. I don’t understand what we’re paying our taxes for.

“The icing on the cake is the council welfare team checking that they’re okay. How about checking if we’re okay?”
