A PETITION has been submitted to Rotherham Council calling for improvements to be made at Todwick roundabout.

There were 130 names on the document presented to the full RMBC meeting last Wednesday (4) but lead petitioner Ian Sanderson said there were “hundreds more” paper signatures which missed the meeting deadline because of holidays.

He told the meeting: “All the users of this stretch of the A57 are aware of the regular accidents and near misses at this location. Every day there seems to be an accident of some sort, a lot of which doesn’t get reported to the police so it’s missing from the data.

“What we don’t want to do is get to the point where we have to come back and say ‘I told you so’.

“Congestion at busy times is ridiculous. We can tail back almost all the way back to Dinnington, and we are also having congestion at North Anston as well, as everybody tries to bypass this roundabout and find the safer way of getting to the A57.”

The council said a response to the petition would be made in due course by the director of regeneration and environment.

Another petition presented at the same meeting last week called for traffic calming measures on Melton High Street.
